Review as Teaching and as a Staff Signal
Reviewing to grow people (explaining why, linking to principles, pairing on hard reviews), reviewing across teams to spread standards, turning repeated comments into docs, lint rules and templates, and how review shows up in staff-level evidence.

Review that multiplies
teaching through review
- Explain the principle, not just the fix: "money amounts are integers in minor units because floats round; see Computers part 7".
- Calibrate to the person: more explanation for juniors, more trust and fewer comments for seniors.
- Pair on hard reviews: a 20-minute call beats 30 comments.
- Turn repeats into systems: if you write the same comment three times, write a lint rule, a doc or a template instead.
- Review across teams on the risky paths (money, auth, migrations) to spread one standard.
The manager reviews in your own record mention code reviews across five teams as a strength. The staff version of that habit is the step after: converting what you keep pointing out in reviews into shared rules, docs and paved paths, so the whole organisation improves even on PRs you never see.
